No April Fools Joke here

I missed posting the market update yesterday due to schedule and some news I have received. Everyone that knows me, definitely knows I enjoy a good belly laugh especially at their expense (or at mine.) Just as long as you laugh. Life is too short to be miserable or carry a grudge. They say laughter is the best medicine and I believe it…but sometimes it doesn’t work. So naturally you would think this is the day Bob looks forward to every year. Not today…
I received an email from a fellow real estate agent that walks with me at the Frederick Relay every year. Last year she brought a friend of hers that was battling Cancer, Jen Kelly. She was in remission and was doing well. The evening was great seeing her family (husband and two young children) with her as we walked in celebration of her Survivorship.
That’s what the whole event is about Celebrating victories and one of the harder parts Remembering the ones that weren’t so victorious. It pains me deeply that we most likely won’t be Celebrating this year. News has not been good for Jen. As I write this today, the doctors are predicting a few weeks to a month. I am very grateful for meeting Jen, as she is a vibrant young woman with a very wonderful family. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Below is from last years event.
As I have always said…
Either you have it, have had it, will have it or know someone that does…pay it forward and help find a cure and help those in need now.
This is part of Fighting Back…
on edit: Jen passed away April 2, 2008.
You will be missed.

OK, www.MargaRELAYville.org is up and running!!! Pretty catchy for a name, huh? That’s because it’s this year’s theme…A little bit of Caribbean and a little bit of Jimmy Buffet. We are looking to recruit over 60 teams this year and raise more than $180,000 from this event. Now is the time to sign up. We are offering an early bird sign up period. $5 per person!
Get your thinking caps on…we are looking for team and fund raising events from you. The Frederick County Relay for Life needs you. It’s one night of celebrating cancer survivors, remembering those that we have lost, and fighting for a cure. Come join your neighbors and friends on May 16th at the Frederick Fair Grounds.
So now is the time to sign up for the Frederick County Relay for Life. The sooner you start the sooner you can get to start fund raising.
You can also visit the Urbana Relay for Life on their website.

You may have read earlier that I was involved in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Frederick County this year. I started a team to raise money for Cancer awareness and support programs. Our final number turned out to be $3,632.40 a few off of our goal of $4,000. But let me share with you the goals and numbers from the whole event itself.
Here’s the infamous video:
The song is “Why We Walk” by the Mamasitas. CDs are available for $5 and benefit American Cancer Society along with The Frederick County Relay for Life. You can get them through Laurie, just send her an email.A little sidebar, I will the Online Chair for next year’s event…so please stay tuned for more information on how to get involved. The more people involve the more we can reach out to those in need.
Yes, that’s Miss Maryland 2006, Brittany Lietz. She’s a cancer survivor. Read her story, it will make you think about the next time you go out in the sun.
What a weekend to behold

Well…what a great weekend I had. Finished catching up on all my sleep. Got the smell of smoke out of my clothes (remind me to bring dry wood next year). And now I have the honor to present this video to you. I must warn you it’s VERY LONG and will take a long time to load. I would also suggest keeping a box of kleenex close by because if the photos don’t affect you, the music will. You may not know these folks, but they are your parents, your brothers and sisters, husband and wives, your children, your best friend… This compilation was made possible by the hard work of Laurie Frey. (Who starts her new job at the American Cancer Society tomorrow)
Video Frederick Cancer walk – “Cancer has A Face “ (very large file but absolutely worth it. 14 MB) You are going to want to make sure you have your volume turned up. The song is “Why We Walk” by the Mamasitas. CDs are available for $5 and benefit American Cancer Society along with The Frederick County Relay for Life. You can get them through Laurie, just send her an email.
A little something from our site I put together for my team.
Our efforts helped raise over $160,000 (as of the moment I wrote this) Donations can continue even after the Frederick County Relay for Life. The event is soo much fun and has entertainment for everyone.
- Music throughout the evening courtesy of “Street Noise” (a local band.)
- Silent Auction items donated by participating teams and local businesses.
- Ms. Relay…our drag queen contest (believe me this is an insult to drag queens)
- Box car race with no rules…and plenty of back seat drivers.
- Midnight BINGO with Square Dancing… “Swing your partner round and round… B-8″.
- Each site has tents and campers set up…smell of various food cooking on grills and fire pits.
- Meet new friends or just hang out with your old ones, either way you can’t lose!
I hope to see you all next year…really!!!

Bob Carney
