Miss Maryland 2006 Brittany Lietz

You may have read earlier that I was involved in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Frederick County this year. I started a team to raise money for Cancer awareness and support programs. Our final number turned out to be $3,632.40 a few off of our goal of $4,000. But let me share with you the goals and numbers from the whole event itself.

Here’s the infamous video:

The song is “Why We Walk” by the Mamasitas. CDs are available for $5 and benefit American Cancer Society along with The Frederick County Relay for Life. You can get them through Laurie, just send her an email.A little sidebar, I will the Online Chair for next year’s event…so please stay tuned for more information on how to get involved. The more people involve the more we can reach out to those in need.

Yes, that’s Miss Maryland 2006, Brittany Lietz. She’s a cancer survivor. Read her story, it will make you think about the next time you go out in the sun.

Polyp ManWell…what a great weekend I had. Finished catching up on all my sleep. Got the smell of smoke out of my clothes (remind me to bring dry wood next year). And now I have the honor to present this video to you. I must warn you it’s VERY LONG and will take a long time to load. I would also suggest keeping a box of kleenex close by because if the photos don’t affect you, the music will. You may not know these folks, but they are your parents, your brothers and sisters, husband and wives, your children, your best friend… This compilation was made possible by the hard work of Laurie Frey. (Who starts her new job at the American Cancer Society tomorrow)

Video Frederick Cancer walk – “Cancer has A Face (very large file but absolutely worth it. 14 MB) You are going to want to make sure you have your volume turned up. The song is “Why We Walk” by the Mamasitas. CDs are available for $5 and benefit American Cancer Society along with The Frederick County Relay for Life. You can get them through Laurie, just send her an email.

A little something from our site I put together for my team.

Our efforts helped raise over $160,000 (as of the moment I wrote this) Donations can continue even after the Frederick County Relay for Life. The event is soo much fun and has entertainment for everyone.

  • Music throughout the evening courtesy of “Street Noise” (a local band.)
  • Silent Auction items donated by participating teams and local businesses.
  • Ms. Relay…our drag queen contest (believe me this is an insult to drag queens)
  • Box car race with no rules…and plenty of back seat drivers.
  • Midnight BINGO with Square Dancing… “Swing your partner round and round… B-8″.
  • Each site has tents and campers set up…smell of various food cooking on grills and fire pits.
  • Meet new friends or just hang out with your old ones, either way you can’t lose!

I hope to see you all next year…really!!!

Frederick County Relay For Life Cancer WalkEvery year for the last couple, I have been involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. I was introduced to this annual event by a friend that has kicked cancer and thought this would be a great family event. This is a way to teach my kids that you don’t always have to do things to benefit yourself. Not personally touched by cancer myself, I have known friends and family that have experienced the pitfalls and pain of Cancer. Unfortunately not everyone gets to wear the title “Survivor”

I look at this way… Either you HAVE it, WILL have it, HAVE HAD it or you definitely know someone that has had it… Make this your Feel Good Project of the year and help me raise money!!! It’s for a great cause…

You can either donate here or stop by the Frederick County Fair Grounds on Friday after 4:00 PM. There will be a silent auction with plenty of great donations from your favorite local businesses. The Survivors’ Reception starts at 5:00 PM (must register prior) followed by an evening of various on track fund raising events.

I look forward to your donation or your presence at the Frederick County Fair Grounds this Friday May 18, 2007.

Feel free to call me with any questions
