Do your part and spread the word about text message AMBER Alerts

Amber Alerts have been around for a while. It really came to the surface when George Bush call for action to appoint an AMBER Alert Coordinator in 2002. There have been more than 350 children recovered since the beginning of the AMBER Alert program (90% of them since 2002.) Even if it is only one child…that child could be yours. Wouldn’t you be glad that someone knew right away?

Awareness is always the best tool. The more people looking for one person, the better the chance of finding that person. Children are our future…how many times have you heard that. Unfortunately we have predators to thank for all of the public service programs we have like Missing and Exploited Children and AMBER Alerts.

Now through the efforts of Syniverse Technologies and the Wireless Foundation, you can receive AMBER Alerts via your cell phone. All you have to do is go to the website and sign up for alerts. My carrier is Verizon, so when I plugged my phone number in there it sent me to my carriers page to finish the set up. I was able to set up alerts for multiple areas. The only thing I am not sure about if it is absolutely critical to add all zip codes. If any alerts are sent for a surrounding area, will it alert me? That I will need to research. But don’t let that hold you up from signing up.

The first three hours of the incident are critical in a successful recovery…do your part sign up and spread the word. I have installed the a widget that constantly updates with missing children information on the right sidebar. You can get yours on Website AMBER Alert.com (they are not affiliated or associated with the official AMBER Alert program)

Start now by signing up to receive your AMBER Alert on your cell phone.

This one comes from a trip my family made back to Pittsburgh this week due to an unexpected death in the family. (I guess they all are unexpected in a way) We will miss you Danny. It was far too early for your time.

Even in the most of unfortunate times, whenever our family gets together, something funny is going to happen. (thanks to my mother-in-law) Yes, kids you have her genes. :-)

Moments before this picture the dialog went something like this…

My daughter: Grandma, I think there is something back there!!!

Grandma: No there’s not!

BUMP!!!

Theres nothing back there

So as you see, there was something back there…a row of Mailboxes. There are laws against damaging mailboxes.

Mailboxes are considered federal property, and federal law (Title 18, United States Code, Section 1705), makes it a crime to vandalize them (or to injure, deface or destroy any mail deposited in them). Violators can be fined up to $250,000, or imprisoned for up to three years, for each act of vandalism.

Coincidentally, there were more mailboxes falling over in the neighborhood…she says it was due to the high winds yesterday. Ahh…OK.

Stay tuned for next week’s “When Grandma’s gone bad!” on FOX
Have a great weekend!

Thank you for all of your support. Thank you for stopping by day in and day out to see what I am going to ramble on about today. Thank you for being there when I needed you most. Thank you for listening when I only needed an ear. Thank you for helping me see through things. Thank you for telling me to just shut up and do it. Thank you for being you. Thank you to my family for always being there. Thank you to the soldiers serving their country now and before. I am thankful for having all of you in my life.

Thank you Turkey for being golden brown and so juicy…

Have a great Thanksgiving.

Networking in the Cyberworld

Cyber BobOne of the reasons I started blogging was to meet people that I would have never had the opportunity to meet face to face. That is the amazing (and not-so-amazing) part about the world wide web, you can meet and relate with so many people. Unfortunately, we live in a real world that has sexual predators stalking our young folks. Always know who your kids are talking to online. I created a myspace account to keep track of their travels and understand how myspace works. But now, I just make them give me their sign on and passwords. My house my rules…Right hun? (now it’s just a landing page for more exposure of my websites and not good one at that) They say you can network your business over there too. Just not for me… I haven’t figured out a productive way to network professionally over there.

I also jumped on the Facebook bandwagon...you can poke me over there or buy me a drink. They say it has great networking potential for your business. I just haven’t used it to its fullest yet. This has an ability to keep your closest friends and new contacts in touch with you daily activities. It is all about relating to people. In sales everywhere, you have to meet people. People have to see something in common with you…it’s in our nature.
I feel one of the more professional social networks is LinkedIn. You have the ability to market yourself based on your business and recommendations. I have not heard how many people are actually getting business from this particular site. I think the viral market capabilities are numerous. If have ever heard of the theory Six Degrees of Separation, then you will see how it is put into play on LinkedIn. They use this concept to connect other people. You also know that the word of mouth is more powerful than any print marketing campaign could ever offer. (and soo much cheaper) It’s just your job to keep the relationship going good after making the connection.

One of the other networks that I belong to is the Active Rain Real Estate Network. This is one place that Real Estate Agents across the United States and Canada come to network. We share business ideas, technical support on products used by us, marketing tips and also trends in real estate. What also happens here…referral networking. By interacting with other real estate professionals across the states, I can help my relocating clients find the best agent in their new home town. I offer this service FREE to all residents moving out of Frederick County. Just contact me before you start looking and I will put you in touch with one of the local experts.

Along with networking and sharing ideas, we also provide information for consumers. Just take a look at what we have to say about Frederick County Real Estate and communities. Localism.com is a great source of real estate news across the states too.

But back to the real purpose of this post…I have been poofed and popped into a Fictional story about a little town outside of St. Paul MN, called Danger Bay. A few old Codgers have taken up the world of blogging and have delighted us with their morning ramblings at the local cafe, politics in the real world…why I am not sure about that, but I guess that is a whole other post. They created this story about a town that has some linear relativity to their hometown. (Or at least it appears to) Where the reality ends and cyber starts is still a mistery, but the final product is still entertaining. They love it when you make a comment, something about a truth in Blatancy disclaimer…whatever.

Here is my cyber world induction into cyberworld.

I would have never been part of a future all American classic like Danger Bay, if I never met Jay, Boomer, and Carl without networking in Cyberspace. (Still haven’t check the Sexual Predator registry on them)

Thanks Guys. Have a great weekend.
