Networking in the Cyberworld

One of the reasons I started blogging was to meet people that I would have never had the opportunity to meet face to face. That is the amazing (and not-so-amazing) part about the world wide web, you can meet and relate with so many people. Unfortunately, we live in a real world that has sexual predators stalking our young folks. Always know who your kids are talking to online. I created a myspace account to keep track of their travels and understand how myspace works. But now, I just make them give me their sign on and passwords. My house my rules…Right hun? (now it’s just a landing page for more exposure of my websites and not good one at that) They say you can network your business over there too. Just not for me… I haven’t figured out a productive way to network professionally over there.

I also jumped on the Facebook bandwagon...you can poke me over there or buy me a drink. They say it has great networking potential for your business. I just haven’t used it to its fullest yet. This has an ability to keep your closest friends and new contacts in touch with you daily activities. It is all about relating to people. In sales everywhere, you have to meet people. People have to see something in common with you…it’s in our nature.
I feel one of the more professional social networks is LinkedIn. You have the ability to market yourself based on your business and recommendations. I have not heard how many people are actually getting business from this particular site. I think the viral market capabilities are numerous. If have ever heard of the theory Six Degrees of Separation, then you will see how it is put into play on LinkedIn. They use this concept to connect other people. You also know that the word of mouth is more powerful than any print marketing campaign could ever offer. (and soo much cheaper) It’s just your job to keep the relationship going good after making the connection.

One of the other networks that I belong to is the Active Rain Real Estate Network. This is one place that Real Estate Agents across the United States and Canada come to network. We share business ideas, technical support on products used by us, marketing tips and also trends in real estate. What also happens here…referral networking. By interacting with other real estate professionals across the states, I can help my relocating clients find the best agent in their new home town. But back to the real purpose of this post…I have been poofed and popped into a Fictional story about a little town outside of St. Paul MN, called Danger Bay. A few old Codgers have taken up the world of blogging and have delighted us with their morning ramblings at the local cafe, politics in the real world…why I am not sure about that, but I guess that is a whole other post. They created this story about a town that has some linear relativity to their hometown. (Or at least it appears to) Where the reality ends and cyber starts is still a mistery, but the final product is still entertaining. They love it when you make a comment, something about a truth in Blatancy disclaimer…whatever.

I would have never been part of a future all American classic like Danger Bay, if I never met Jay, Boomer, and Carl without networking in Cyberspace. (Still haven’t check the Sexual Predator registry on them)
