Middletown FireworksMiddletown put on an enjoyable evening of festivities complimented with some background music on Saturday night.   The weather was very cooperative.  We grilled at home and headed down to the park afterwards.  We picked our spot on the open field of the park east of the lake along Coblentz Road.  The park was not crowded at all and we had a perfect view.  The fireworks were, in my opinion, far superior to other surrounding towns.  Unfortunately the evening ended with the sounds of an ambulance.  I am guessing someone was burnt by some of the low flying sparks from the display.

I am glad we got them in, as it seems the weather won’t be too cooperative Wednesday for the Frederick City fireworks at Baker Park.   They have an old band from my past lined up as the Headliner performance.  How many of you remember Blue Oyster Cult?  They kick off at 5:15 by the Bell Tower.  For all of you Country Folk, WFRE will have their stage set up by the pool in the Soccer Fields.  Their headliner, Mark Wills,  starts at 7:00 PM.   You can get all the details for Frederick’s Celebration on their website It has the list of events for the whole day at Baker Park.   I think this is new this year, there will be another stage setup on the baseball fields past Culler Lake.  Their venue is more alternative and rock.   The days events kick off at noon at Bandshell.  Come early stake out your real estate for the fireworks.

If your not into the crowds, Overlook off Himes has a decent view of the park.

Here’s some of my shots of the fireworks…don’t laugh, it’s tough filming Fireworks effectively…enjoy.

Frederick (County) Food - Piping hot Coffee

The Main Cup EntranceThe moment you walk in to The Main Cup, you’re greeted with an aromatic smell of fresh coffee…duh!!! It’s a coffee shop. It’s not your regular cup, this place has great charm. The Old Main Street Ice cream shop was renovated by the Brenengen’s prior to their opening on March 28th. The renovation not only preserved some of the old “ice box” doors, but added modern appeal. Look closely at the art work on the wall; it was created by local artist Kesra Hoffman. Yes, it’s available for purchase. The shop has numerous tables and over stuffed furniture to settled down with some friends and chat about local events or just plain gossip. Play some checkers in the back or some backgammon.

Soups, Snacks and Salads! If you are eating light, you have plenty of choices for salads; Moroccan Lemon Chicken Salad (this sounds good just saying the name.) Caesar, Spinach, house and another interesting one, Grilled Romaine Wedge.

Sandwiches anyone? Not only are you tempted by the display case full of fresh bakery goods, but you have an arsenal of freshly made sandwiches to choose from over lunch or dinner. Where else can you get a Grilled Mahi Mahi on a challah roll? Of course there are traditional favorites like Cheeseburgers, Grilled Rubens, and of course, Crab Cake sandwiches. One of the local patrons, Christine Preston had this to say about Todd’s Steak and Cheese, “It had lots of Flavor!”

I can’t wait to get back and try out the food… I just couldn’t see eating a Crab Cake sandwich at 9:30 in the morning..The caffine hasn’t even kicked in yet!!! See you at The Main Cup.
