Friday Frederick Foto for Ice Cream

This week has been one of the warmer weeks of the summer.  I’m not complaining, just sayin’.  One of my favorite past times when it’s hot (or cold out) is visiting local ice cream establishments.

Orange-Pineapple is favorite of mine

Orange-Pineapple is favorite of mine

Here are a few places around Frederick County and surrounding areas that you might find me enjoying a cone.

  • Jami’s out on Route 40.  The best (and least expensive) soft serve around.  Love the flavor of the week.
  • Ben & Jerry’s on Carroll Creek.  Always has a flavor for your mood.  Plus, people watch is always the best along the creek.
  • Jimmie Cone off 144 in Mt Airy.  This is a local icon.
  • Nutter’s in Sharpsburg next to the Library.
  • Maggie Moos has some of the tastiest creation as well in Westview plaza.
  • Bruster’s on Crestwood and New Design.
  • Rita’s Ice on South St.
  • Dairy Queen of course.
  • RIP – FreezKing  It was one of my favorites

So, tell me where is your ice cream place?

Friday Foto is for Flying over Frederick

I had the opportunity to take a helicopter ride over our lovely city. The experience was far from what I remember when I was in the service flying in the back of a Chinook at tree top heights around Germany.  I am not the fondest of heights, but I was over taken by excitement to get up and take some aerial photos of the city.  It was more like flying in a soft top Jeep.  I was shoulder to shoulder with the pilot.  Any time I turned to the left to take a shot out the door, I was out the door.  It’s not like this is the most sophisticated of machinery.  The seatbelt was not that like a race car driver with 5-point attachment system only a cheesy 3-point lap belt system like in your car, but imagine a little more flimsy.   Well, I did survive and I didn’t get sick.  Here’s a collage of some of the shots that I managed to get while hoovering a few hundred feet above the Spires.

Friday Foto for FCC

It’s no secret that I enjoy photography.  I am always looking for ways to improve my skills and increase my lens inventory.  Of course they always say, to be successful take something you love doing and make money at it.  So that is what I am slowly doing.  I am working on a photos for a friend that works closely with the Frederick Community College Basketball teams.  You can click on the photo below and navagate through a few of the shots on my Flickr account.

But the other part of this post is to open your eyes to something local and inexpensive to do one evening.  FCC offers a wide variety of classes for those that looking to enhance their education. But more importantly they offer sporting events for a very reasonable price. North Frederick Elementary has been taken under the basketball players wings. They invite them to watch the games on a regular basis. These kids think they are watching a professional game and completely enjoying it. For a few bucks you can come out and escape the daily grind and entertain the kids.  And if it’s not basketball that interest you check out their events calendar for other reasons to visit the campus.

Have a great weekend.
