I had some time to kill before I had to pick up my daughter for soccer practice earlier this week. I pass by the signs on Alternate Route 40 all the time. “Washington Monument State ParkBut isn’t the Monument in DC? This monument was erected long before the National Washington Monument  and, in my opinion, offers a much more pleasant experience. The entrance is across the street from the historic South Mountain Inn and right next to the Dahlgren Chapel.

The Washington Monument State Park sits along the Appalachian Trail and peacefully a top one of the high points on South Mountain. I think I found my “happy” place with this park. The views are wonderful and the history is intriguing. I can only imagine what took place on that mountain during the Civil War times. I am sure the rocks tell a story…I just haven’t heard them yet.

One thing that really draws me to this location is the fact they see Bald Eagles on a regular basis. I would love to photograph a Bald Eagle majestically flying across the ridge line. They are such an awesome species…maybe its just my patriotism that favors this bird of prey.

Have a great week…if you are looking for something to do, stop by The Washington Monument State Park.

What is Interfaith Housing

We have a local chapter of Interfaith Housing right here in Frederick.  They are located at 731 North Market Street in downtown Frederick.  They bring people together to build affordable housing communities and help put people in homes.  They are a not-for-profit organization that work to make affordable housing through homeownership, affordable rentals for seniors and affordable rentals for low income families.

Homeownership is one of their missions.  One way to own a home through them is to help build your home.  This replaces the traditional down payment.  They understand the problems that lower income families have and offer solutions to assist in homeownership.  Your sweat equity is your down payment…they call it Self-Help.

Self-Help

Self Help Housing

The Self-Help program provides affordable homeownership by replacing the traditional 10% down payment with sweat equity.  Participants work 30 hours a week toward the construction of their home which may take nearly one year.  These families work alongside their future neighbors in building each other’s homes and  community.

Financing is provided by the USDA at lower rates than conventional lenders. ~Interfaith Housing Website

They are always looking for Partners and Volunteers.  Stop by their website and see if you qualify for their assistance, if not stop by to see if you can help build a better community.  You can also just call them at (301) 662-4225.  They are currently looking for help in Frederick County with Monocacy Woods Project and Hope VI Project.

Market update for Frederick

Here’s the most recent sold homes in Frederick county for the past week. It is ranked from lowest price to highest price. I have noticed an increase in activity for the last few weeks. Inventory has just topped over 2,000 homes at 2,003. With the “spring market” upon us…that number will continue to climb through June-July.

Friday Foto for Fairy Tales

Don’t know why it says Alice In Wonderland for the Easter BunnyYesterday was our friends first trip to see the Easter Bunny with their newborn baby. Of course as any proud parents, you need photos and more photos and then a few more. There wasn’t any tears or screaming at all…mom held it together pretty well.

First trip to see the Easter Bunny

After pictures at the FSK Mall, we headed over to Applebee’s for some grub. While we were there, in walk a few familiar faces. Not only did she get to see the Easter Bunny, she also got to see Santa. Not just one Santa but two Santas. They must of had a Tweetup, Sledup or Meetup or something. We thought we were being invaded by the Salvation Army bell ringers union. OK photo op with the working camera the Fuji s5200. (They had business cards and everything.) I knew they were the real Santa Doubles.
