Do your part and spread the word about text message AMBER Alerts

Amber Alerts have been around for a while. It really came to the surface when George Bush call for action to appoint an AMBER Alert Coordinator in 2002. There have been more than 350 children recovered since the beginning of the AMBER Alert program (90% of them since 2002.) Even if it is only one child…that child could be yours. Wouldn’t you be glad that someone knew right away?

Awareness is always the best tool. The more people looking for one person, the better the chance of finding that person. Children are our future…how many times have you heard that. Unfortunately we have predators to thank for all of the public service programs we have like Missing and Exploited Children and AMBER Alerts.

Now through the efforts of Syniverse Technologies and the Wireless Foundation, you can receive AMBER Alerts via your cell phone. All you have to do is go to the website and sign up for alerts. My carrier is Verizon, so when I plugged my phone number in there it sent me to my carriers page to finish the set up. I was able to set up alerts for multiple areas. The only thing I am not sure about if it is absolutely critical to add all zip codes. If any alerts are sent for a surrounding area, will it alert me? That I will need to research. But don’t let that hold you up from signing up.

The first three hours of the incident are critical in a successful recovery…do your part sign up and spread the word. I have installed the a widget that constantly updates with missing children information on the right sidebar. You can get yours on Website AMBER Alert.com (they are not affiliated or associated with the official AMBER Alert program)

Start now by signing up to receive your AMBER Alert on your cell phone.

Wonderful, Bob! I hope it’s rarely if ever used, but just in case isn’t it a relief to know so many people will be aware and looking?
