Frederick MD Real EstateLets step back and take a look at the overall big picture…national trends. I have graphed Realtor.com traffic for the past year.  You can see we are not near where the traffic was last year.  Now keep in mind this is not exactly a direct reflection of local conditions but is does have a similarity of our market.

Realtor webstatics for the past year

Webtrends show us that the interest is not there.  You can see the normal cyclic trends like the week before school starts and Christmas time embedded in the continually dropping traffic trends.   Like I mentioned before in an earlier post our market is moving under $500,000.  However, there are some sparks of life appearing lately above $500,000 that I am seeing in my listings and hearing it through my colleauges.  Maybe we will have a late spring market.   Instead of a chart this week, here is the raw data.   Inventory continues to climb giving buyers more homes to look at…How will your home show?

Memorial Day…A day to remember!

Have a great Memorial Day…please remember why we are off today. Here is one of the best videos that I have seen on YouTube.

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day.

I Scream, You Scream we all scream for ICE Cream!!!

Freeze King Frederick MDThe weather is getting warm (hot) which starts my favorite time of the year…ICE Cream season!!!  Sure, you can buy ice cream everyday at the super market.  But nothing taste better than melting ice cream out of a soggy ice cream cone.   That has to be the best part.  I am not one to get the fancy smancy waffle cones dipped in chocolate and sprinkles.  I like a simple cake cone.   My family and I love to check out all the ice cream in the area.  So I am going to share some of our findings with you.  Please add you own.  (Even out of state…we do travel)

Here is what we have found in Frederick County.  I think one of the first places we ever visited when we came to Frederick, MD, was Freeze King over on East Street & 13th.  It’s one of the better soft ice cream places we have been to…however; you must have patience.  The young staff lacks motivation in the customer service department.  On a warm evening, the lines are out to the parking lot with two or three windows open…tells at least one thing…everyone else likes this place and is willing to wait.  It looks like a dive, but I like it.  Also, this place is pretty inexpensive.

Now on to the refrigerated table ice cream (What?)  You know the Cold Stone Creamery Ice Cream and the Maggie Moos.  These places mix customize ice cream in front of you on a large refrigerated table (or cold stone)  We like to stop by every once in while to these ones for specialty ice cream.  We prefer Maggie Moos over Cold stone only because of location.   Maggie Moos is locate in the Westview Plaza on Route 85, while Cold Stone Creamery is located across from the Walmart on Monacacy Blvd.  We like sitting out side the Westview 16 movie theater  while eating up some over priced ice cream and people watch.  (people are an interesting species)  One of my favorites is Twizzler, taste exactly like real Twizzlers.  Both locations have some very interesting concoctions to appeal to everyone’s taste.  The reason we don’t frequent Cold Stone is parking …what were the engineers thinking?  They have maybe 70 parking spaces in front of Five Guys, Cold Stone, Starbucks and California Tortilla.  All very trendy and delicious (that’s another post)  But definitely not enough to support the masses.

The latest addition to the ice cream favorite listBen and Jerry’s!!!  Ben Jerrys Frederick MDWhat better place can you people watch, than downtown?!?!  I have not identified a favorite flavor here, yet…so far they are all very good….Chunky Monkey, Phish Food, Cherry Garcia, I could just go on.   For hard packed ice cream, this is top.   Ben and Jerry’s is located on Carroll Creek just a short walk from North Market Street.

Jamis Hagerstown MDLastly, our favorite soft serve…not in Frederick, MD but worth the drive, Jami’s (or Mary’s) out on Alternate Route 40 just past Greenbrier State Park.   This little trailer serves up the best around.  They have a weekly flavor usually something like Blackberry, Peach or my fav…Creamsicle.   The ice cream is just the right texture.  Definitely real cream not watered down like some soft serves.

Honorable mentions would include, of course, Dairy Queen, Gyro King Dairy Delite on Rt Brusters Frederick MD40 (try the gyro, outstanding!), Baskin & Robbins (31 flavors), also on 40,  Frederick Fudge & Ice Cream on East St. (more for the fudge than the ice cream) For a good cheap Banana Split go to Bruster’s on Crestwood on Thursdays.  Take a banana with and get it half priced…(if you forget, walk across to the grocery store and buy a bundle.) Beef, buns and Paradise out past the fair grounds, Rita’s Italian Ice on Patrick Street.  I think there’s more that I am forgetting….help remind me!

So what are you waiting for?  It’s already 80 degrees outside at 10:30 AM…  Order up a double scoop!!!

What a weekend to behold

Polyp ManWell…what a great weekend I had. Finished catching up on all my sleep. Got the smell of smoke out of my clothes (remind me to bring dry wood next year). And now I have the honor to present this video to you. I must warn you it’s VERY LONG and will take a long time to load. I would also suggest keeping a box of kleenex close by because if the photos don’t affect you, the music will. You may not know these folks, but they are your parents, your brothers and sisters, husband and wives, your children, your best friend… This compilation was made possible by the hard work of Laurie Frey. (Who starts her new job at the American Cancer Society tomorrow)

Video Frederick Cancer walk - “Cancer has A Face (very large file but absolutely worth it. 14 MB) You are going to want to make sure you have your volume turned up. The song is “Why We Walk” by the Mamasitas. CDs are available for $5 and benefit American Cancer Society along with The Frederick County Relay for Life. You can get them through Laurie, just send her an email.

A little something from our site I put together for my team.

Our efforts helped raise over $160,000 (as of the moment I wrote this) Donations can continue even after the Frederick County Relay for Life. The event is soo much fun and has entertainment for everyone.

  • Music throughout the evening courtesy of “Street Noise” (a local band.)
  • Silent Auction items donated by participating teams and local businesses.
  • Ms. Relay…our drag queen contest (believe me this is an insult to drag queens)
  • Box car race with no rules…and plenty of back seat drivers.
  • Midnight BINGO with Square Dancing… “Swing your partner round and round… B-8″.
  • Each site has tents and campers set up…smell of various food cooking on grills and fire pits.
  • Meet new friends or just hang out with your old ones, either way you can’t lose!

I hope to see you all next year…really!!!
